Every shotgun shooter should own a pair of brass snap caps.  These shooting essentials will take away the tension of your firing pins when your shotgun is being stored away.

Bisley Brass shotgun snap caps are available in either 12 bore, 20 bore, or 410 and are sold as a pair.

When your gun is being stored away, simply inset the brass snap caps into where you would normally put a shotgun cartridge. Fire your shotgun with the snap caps inserted and this will take tension off of the firing pins.

You can also use shotgun snap caps as an aid for you when getting used to your shotgun. Due to the spring dampened false primer, when having snap caps installed it allows you safely pull the trigger without damaging any components.
