This scarce J Macnaughton 28 Bore shotgun as the 1879 Patent ‘The Edinburgh’ hammerless triggerplate action, round action and is a non ejector. Serial Number 1670
This Macnaughton 28 Bore has 24″ barrels finished in Bold Damascus with MacNaughton stamp and serial number to the underside. These barrels are black powder only.
The rib is engraved J.MACNAUGHTON.EDINBURGH.
2 1/2″ chambers, bored approximately 3/4 choke in both barrels.
Features the Macnaughton patent lever-cocking hammerless action, patent number 2848 of 1879, use number 257.
The slender fences are engraved MACNAUGHTON.EDINBURGH. Inscrolling banners, elongated skeletal toplever, topstrap with crystal cocking inspection window.
The lever safety is automatic with engraved ‘SAFE’ detail. There is also border acanthus scroll engraving with a brushed finish overall.
13 5/8″ stock, which includes a 3/4″ rubber recoil pad.Weighs 4lb 6oz.
There is a provenance with this shotgun. The makers have kindly confirmed that this gun was completed as a 28 bore on the 8th August 1894 for Capt. McGowan at a cost of £24.
